THE ANALYSIS OF POEM
BASED ON ITS STYLISTICS
By Abd. Rahman

A.                Introduction

Analyzing poem based on its stylistics is not easy. It needs a hard effort. Stylistics of poem reflects to the background of the poet used as the standing ground he expresses his ideas and it makes the readers of the poem be likely to  interpret the massage of the poem differently based on their own interest. People usually put their distinctive idea that   poem can not be understood only focusing on the lateral meaning of words used in every line in it, but since most of words used in the poem have connotative meaning, it has to be understood  in their context.
Every poet uses a very definite context to express his or her ideas. Some poets often intend to deliver the massage to the readers involving their personal thoughts or way of life. Others often express their ideas based on their  life experience, background of study, religion aspects etc. This will involve to the consideration of the dictions used –the selection of appropriate words, the implicit meaning of the massage –figurative meaning, the values  inspired by the poet for the readers- focusing on ethical values, and something that can not be neglected here is showing the rhyme used in every stanza to reveal the sense of the beauty of the poem. These facts will lead to the complicatedness of interpreting  the essential message which definitely meets to the original ideas of the poem expressed by the poet.
To overcome the problems above, what to do by the one who wants to interpret a poem and its stylistics should put his mind on the consideration that he is only an interpreter not a writer of the poem, so he has to explore and elaborate the main massage of the poem by highlighting the writer’s background in the forms of his thought, way of life, life experience, background of the study, and personal religion aspects focusing on the essential dictions, figurative meaning, ethical values of the massage, and the rhyme used in the poem  By doing these efforts, it is assumed that the interpretation of the poem to get the gist of the massage expressed will be closely to meet to original ideas and gain the beauty of the poem.
Moreover, poem impacts the lives on everyone in many ways. The lyrics of songs are poems. Most people involve poem, in one of its forms, in the most important events in their lives such as expressing sympathy,  synergy of  love, marriage, love is the truth, and feeling happiness.
Therefore, analyzing poem in form of its stylistics involves the rhyme of the poem, the dictions used in every line, the sophisticated selection of words used in the lines of every stanza, the values of the message explicitly or implicitly stated in the poem (ethical values), and the meaning of expressions used in every line or stanza ( figurative meaning).
Rhyme is the order of the sound in every line in stanza. It can occur in initial, medial, and final line in every stanza. The focus of the rhyme analysis is only concentrated on the final sounds of every line in each stanza. The diction analyzed is the way the poet selects appropriate words for certain expressions to produce the sense of beauty and the emphatic meanings of the sentence in every line. Figurative meaning is a meaning which can be understood by relating it to the situational or cultural context   Ethical values, in the implantation, can be as a guideline to behave, act, and do activity in everyday life. Everyone can’t ovoid doing  in society without ethical values because these values always color every human being’s daily activities. One will be called ‘weird’ if she or he is reluctant to behave using an appropriate society’s value. She or he will not be respected by her or his environment, and the society will punish her or him  by getting rid of  her or him from the social communication and affairs.
Ethical values, moreover, are the values which give the community a definite frame work of behaving in every activity in a daily life based n certain norms or cultures. Since the important influence of these values in our daily activities, the analysis of the poems below will be in the corridor of rhyme, diction, figurative meaning and message ( ethical values) which are stated in the poems entitled sympathy, marriage, and love is truth.

Everyone can not ovoid doing  in society without ethical values because these values always color every human being’s daily activities. One will be called ‘weird’ if she or he is reluctant to behave using an appropriate society’s value. She or he will not be respected by her or his environment, and the society will determine a punishment  by getting rid of  her or him from the social communication and affairs.
The analysis of the poems based on the stylistics below is focused  on the poems entitled  sympathy, marriage, and love is  truth.
1.  Sympathy
    By Greg Dills

In all sincerity
It is a pathetic pity

I merely offer sympathy

With such velocity

This sadness born out of the blue

That decides to levy itself on you

In your fixed stillness
I sense your illness
Accept my sympathy

You lost a pet
Somebody made you upset
Accept my sympathy

You lost a friend
Your broken heart is yet to mend
Accept my sympathy

You were once abused
Possibly at times wrongly accused
Accept my sympathy

You marriage is on the rocks
You got divorced, left without a buck
Accept my sympathy

You lost a fortune
Your voice can’t sing a decent tune
Accept my sympathy

You lost in love or lost your job
Or perhaps at one stage got robbed
Accept my sympathy
